  • PLAYER 1 - Eric

    BLACKROCK (UNDERMOUNTAIN)

I want to introduce miself, Iīm Eric, son of Eric, King
    Undervolcano.
This is a pick of our history. When I was young, my grandfather
told me this: "Early in the time we were a mighty and fierce race.
Whith Hill Dwarves, our brothers, we lived in a rich mountain, Hill
Dwarves in the surface, but us always prfered the underworld, his
minerals and the sun canīt reach us. We had a cool life, with our
mines and metalworking, until the day... the Disgrace Day.The day
when we released the fire , the great fire...The volcano was
active, the lava invaded our houses, many people fell in front of
our capital figthing against that flaming liquid. Finally, we have
been forced to evacuate. Three hundreds years lateer we have
returned to BlackRock, where we have found all what we need: food,
    stone, iron..."
This arrival happened a hundred years ago. Now we are ready to
build a new mining empire... We will search our brothers to rejoin
our civilization. This will be hard, but we must triumph over
dificulties and figth for uor prosperity. Iīm not a bard, Iīm not
a scribe, speachs are not my specialty. I can only say: Letīs go my
people, go and reach the happines to our sons!

~Being an excerpt from the Journal of Talitha Darkmoon~

Barackas. The last bastian of a once great and vast Dark Elven empire. Milleniums of greed and petty feuding brought our race to the very brink of destruction. No more! We have achieved what was once believed impossible - UNITY! Now we can begin to reclaim all that is rightfully ours.

Yet at this dawning of a new age for our race, I am given pause by the Oracles. A threat far greater than any yet faced even in our turbulent, treacherous past now stirs.

    ARRAGOTH!

Too long and hard have my people fought to be vanquished at the brink of greatness by this demon born of fire. Time is of the essence. Even as I write these words our fearsome warriors begin the hunt for the Demon's lair.

I shall seek out the Lords of nations so long forgotten in our bitter struggle for survival. I go to offer the might of the Dark Elves to those who wish to unite forces to destroy the Demon before he wakes and enslaves us all in his fiery empire.

Victory once again will belong to the people of Barackas!

  • PLAYER 4 - Iermorcus

Greetings fellow Magi of the Isles of Arragoth!

I am the Wizard Iermorcus. I have come here at the bidding of the Great
Mage to prevent the awakening of the demon Arragoth, son of the Fire Gods.
The Scrolls of Sarakine prophesize that a great evil will arise from the
Isles of Arragoth. The Scrolls say 'When the Heavens are Right, Arragoth
shall Rise.' Know ye that that time is nigh upon us! In a year's time,
Arragoth will awaken and wreak death and destruction upon this world, this
universe and all the multiverse unless we join together to stop him!

I have forged the Minotaur tribes of Bulls Canyon into a unified force,
ready to oppose Arragoth's deadly peril. I fear that the Minotaur tribes by
themselves may not be enough. Join with me in this struggle! Seek out the
Volcanic Lair of the son of the Fire Gods! We must destroy him before his
Lava Legions reawaken and once more enforce Arragoth's rule with fire and
suffering. Let us mass our combined armies against this threat and destroy
    him!

The task before us is not an easy one. I anticipate that our victory will
not be easy or bloodless. But Victory it will be! We shall taste the fruit
of Victory and it will be all the sweeter for the challenge it posed. I am
confident that through our combined efforts we will vanquish the evil
Arragoth. Join with me! Join with me!

I remain, as ever, the humble and obedient servant of the Great Mage,

  • PLAYER 8 - Eduarte

Annals of the Dervishes in the Years of Fire: The Renunciate War

In late spring of the first year of fire, Dervish feyadin exploring the
far reaches of Western Mikrad were set upon by Plainsmen bandits and
Underdwarf soldiers, who seized the western edge of the swamp. At the
same time, the newly constructed tavern in Trader's Point was burned to
the ground by an unknown saboteur. The events seemed too
well-coordinated to be mere coincidence, and the Dervish suspected that
they were the targets of a sinister plan. Omberto the Clever accused
the Plainsmen of attempting to start a war, which the ruler of Granola,
    Malkarma, vehemently denied.

Malkarma and Eric were known as the Renunciates since they were the only
active wizards who had refused to sign the Annunciato that established
the Council of Wizards. Renard, also a Renunciate, had fallen into a
comatose slumber in the jungles of Varossa, apparently having inhaled
too large a dose of hylic vapors, which send the ingester's soul
skirling across the multiverse. Similar fates had apparently befallen
Venom, Dark Lord of the Halflings, and the Gnome King of Farawayfromorl.

Eduarte, Prince of Trader's Point, sent messengers to both Malkarma and
Eric, King Undervolcano of the Underdwarves, attempting to defuse the
crisis by offering to cede sovereignty over the disputed Western Mikrad
shires in exchange for reparations for the destroyed tavern, in the
hopes of gaining a peaceful settlement. Iermorcus, Supreme Bull of the
Minotaur Tribes and Avatar of the Great Mage, sent strongly worded
cautions to the two wizards. The Renunciates chose to interpret this
self-admittedly intemperate action as a provocation, and Malkarma
declared war "to the death" upon the Dervish, the Minotaurs, and any who
chose to ally with them. Negotiations failed due to the intransigence
of Malkarma, who would countenance no discussion that had peace as its
object. Eduarte was obligated to prepare for war.

Iermorcus, stung by the harsh words directed at him by Malkarma, vowed
to aid Eduarte, since the prestige of the Minotaur realm and of the
Council of Wizards was at stake. Senaru agreed to assist Iermorcus,
from his loyalty to his ally and a deeply-felt sense of justice, and in
the hopes that a quick resolution to the war would enable the Council to
direct its efforts toward the defeat of Arragoth. Together, the two
Council members formed the Doloriate Alliance for the purpose of
succouring a fellow wizard from the Renunciate foe.

Back on the Indigo Isle, Sir Durandal of Troi took command of the
Archangel Brigade and advanced into Western Mikrad. He encountered and
defeated the lead element of the Underdwarf army at Meerkress Ford, and
was cited for valor as a result of his actions there. Meanwhile, a
small company of spear-carrying Dervish asegari in the north of the
Mikrad swamp attempted to hold off the Plainsman advance, but was
defeated to the last man by a battalion of Malkarma's wolf-cavalry. The
Renunciates also began to harass the Dervish by sending magically
charmed and plague-ridden giant rats into the villages surrounding
Trader's Point, causing much distress and diverting much-needed
resources from the front lines in Mikrad.

During the autumn, the victory of the Archangel Brigade gave the
Renunciate wizards pause, enabling hastily recruited spearmen to clear
out the plague of rats from the villages of Une and Doa. Charmed rat
attacks continued through the fall, even attacking an encampment of Wild
Tom's new Beastlord Brigade as it assembled in Quat. Renewed sabotage
resulted in the destruction of boat-building facilities throughout the
    Trader's Point region.

Meanwhile, the Cartographical Endeavor initiated by Eduarte and headed
by Mizhal the Scribe succeeded in piecing together reports from far
afield to create a map of the route from the Isle of Mt. Sorrow to the
Indigo Isle. Armed with this knowledge, the Doloriates began to plan an
expedition to relieve the beleagured Dervish people. Sir Jagganah of
the Minotaur nation and Sir Dino Birchtree of the Hill Dwarves were
awarded the Order of Meerkress Ford for their part in the planning and
leadership of the Doloriate Expedition, as the allied army was named.
The honor was accompanied by a medallion of bronze on which was a bust
of Thoth-Merlin, the Dervish god of wisdom, surrounded by the start of
an Ancient inscription "Dulce and decorum est"; on the obverse was the
crossed scimitars representing martial prowess and the end of the
Ancient inscription, "pro patria mori." Together, the inscriptions
comprised the motto of the Order, "It is sweet and proper to die for
one's country." Sir Durandal coined the Order's motto, uttering a
further witticism that is worth reporting: "But it's even sweeter," he
said, "to make the other poor bastard die for his country." That quip
remains the unofficial motto of the Order of Meerkress Ford.

By late autumn, volunteer dark elven spearmen were deployed along the
frontiers of Eastern Mikrad. The Beastlord Brigade, under the command
of Wild Tom, entered Western Mikrad in order to bolster the front
lines. As the Renunciates continued to maneuver and demonstrate in
Western Mikrad, building up their forces, Sir Durandal took command of
the combined Dervish brigades and counter-manuevered, attempting to
maintain an army-in-being as a hedgehog between the Renunciate armies
and the city of Trader's Point. A few small skirmishes occurred as both
sides probed the defenses of the other.

Meanwhile, at the beginning of the winter, Lord Dwain of Nazair subdued
Renard, ruler of the Amazons, and added those regions to his domain.

Winter slowed the Renunciate advance, and the battle lines stabilized in
central Mikrad as Eric and Malkarma mustered even more forces for a
spring offensive. Meanwhile, the fleet of the Doloriate Allies drew
closer to the Plainsman homeland. Recruiting continued at high pace in
both Trader's Point and the dark elf region, aided by the arrival of
Aquimil the Trader from Bulls' Run with a load of supplies to aid in the
    construction of the Dervish defenses.

At the end of the winter, though slowed by storms and bad weather, the
Agitato and Bravado Flotillas led by Jagganah Sahab of the Minotaur
realm landed on Granola and conducted a highly effective raid that
further delayed the Renunciates. Malkarma, expecting the raiders to
stay and fight, launched a counterattack while simultaneously pulling
his battalions back from Mikrad in case they were needed.

At about the same time, two companies of East Mikrad volunteers led by
Aquimil the Trader, a Minotaur soldier of fortune, entered the city of
the Gnome King to limited resistance and established a satrap loyal to
the Merchant Prince there. Similarly, Senaru of the Hill Dwarves
subdued the vicious halflings of Croper's Wood after a short but fierce
    guerilla campaign.

When the Minotaur raiders withdrew, Malkarma once more pushed his army
to the edge of the disputed territory while Eric ordered his powerful
battalions under the seer Galadriel back to the egress from the
ascending shaft out of the Underworld. The apparent reason for this was
Malkarma's demand that he should lead the assault upon the Dervish.

Thus, Malkarma was taken by surprise when the Doloriate Expedition
landed once more upon his shore--this time in force. In a moving speech
before entering battle, Sir Jagganah named his army the "Deliverance
Stampede" and led them to the fight. Malkarma recalled the ranger
Harrison from the Mikrad front, and persuaded Eric to send his bard
    Ricardo to Granola as well.

But Malkarma had more arrows in his quiver yet--magical ones. He
terrorized the Dervish by sending charmed trolls into the lands
surrounding Trader's Point. Seeing the end, Eduarte ordered his armies
to lay waste to the regions they controlled. His commanders refused to
obey in most cases--the paladin Sir Calad Bolg because of his devotion
to Tsengral, god of justice; the knight Sir Durandal because of the
Mizhal the Scribe's steadfast refusal to participate in such an act; and
the beastmaster Wild Tom because the order went astray as he took his
Brigade into Eastern Mikrad. In the end, only the marksman
Venator--alone, deep within enemy territory, beset by monsters, and
filled with bloodlust after a victory over a patrol of Plainsmen mithril
knights--obeyed the order. Eduarte, given over to despair, vowed to end
his own life and summoned the Conclave of Ashes, the Dervish priesthood
responsible for selecting a new prince upon the death of the old, to
    take control of the nation.

Attacking the Doloriate beachhead from three sides, the Renunciate
forces were engaged by Sir Jagganah and Sir Dino Birchtree as well as
the Minotaur heroes Indra, Bhull Jeldi, Hanuman, and Janomal. The
Plainsman heroes Ug the Barbarian and Gaudi of Catalan, a builder, fell
to the Deliverance Stampede--Gaudi was slain in hand-to-hand combat with
Sir Jagganah, who earned on that day the sobriquet "the Relentless" for
his unstoppable advance. Harrison and Ricardo, attempting to lead
flanking attacks to cut off the Doloriate forces from reinforcements,
were killed by the Minotaurs on the beach, though Harrison's mind blast
and Ricardo's spirit drain spells caused much damage to the Doloriate
forces. Meanwhile, Sir Jagganah and the Deliverance Stampede charged
into the city of Granola, bravely defended by a force of archers,
pikemen, and apprentices. After hard fighting, the city fell, and
Malkarma cast a Dimensional Jump spell to escape the Isles of Arragoth.

A hardy sprite flew from the battlefield on swift wings and delivered
the news of victory to Trader's Point, where the Conclave of Ashes had
just begun to assist Eduarte in his ritual suicide. Casting aside his
dagger, Eduarte dismissed the Conclave, and sent congratulatory messages
to the Doloriate Allies, who enjoined Eduarte to begin negotiations for
peace with Eric, King Undervolcano, the surviving Renunciate wizard.
Eric was willing to have peace, since he felt that he had been dragged
into the war by his ally Malkarma. With the disappearance of Malkarma,
he was free to act as he saw fit, but he remained determined to secure
the interests of the Underdwarf Kingdom, and so the bargaining began to
see if it would be peace, or war.

During the negotiations, the reorganization of the Dervish Army was
conducted. Sir Durandal was awarded the title of Marshal, making his
command a division of the Dervish Army. The Archangel Division was
given the arms "A field Gules, a Cross Or." Sir Calad Bolg was made
Marshal as well and given command of the Empyreal Division, with the
arms "A field Argent, a Cross Sable." Wild Tom's brigade was renamed
the Cavaliers and given the arms, "A field quarterly, Argent and
Sable." Venator's brigade was renamed the Bravehearts, to reflect their
notable service to the Palace during the Renunciate War and their
courage in defeating a force of Malkarman mithril knights. The arms of
the Braveheart Brigade were "A field Vert, a Saltire Or." The various
auxiliary brigades were also redesignated, with the First Volunteers
receiving the arms, "A field party per bend, Gules and Argent." The
Second Volunteers were awarded, "A field Or, Sable chief," and the Third
Volunteers, "A field party per fess, Azure and Argent."

As a signal but purely nominal honor, the members of Sir Jagganah's
Deliverance Stampede were enrolled in the Dervish Army as the Deliverer
Brigade and given the arms "A field Sable, a Chevron Or."

During the negotiations, Iermorcus emerged with a bold plan he called
the Seven Points. After a flurry of hard bargaining by both sides, the
peace treaty declared that Eric would receive Kilmoth-town and
sufficient surface shires to supply his need for gems and wood. The
Doloriates would receive a land route connecting them to the Dervish as
well as Gotill-town and parts of the desert.

And so the Renunciate War came to an end, and there was much rejoicing
in Trader's Point and throughout the land of the Dervish.

    Welcome mighty wizards
I'm greeting you as a ruler of Sand People of Nazair. In the month of winds the Conclave have chosen me to face great threat coming from Lord of Fire. Our nation is living in the Desert. Natural caves, and rock pools make our home beautiful beyond imagination. The place where sand and water meet, dancing with each other, they change shape and structure, so that every day brings new beauty that can be compared with nothing else. Our nation was always secret and closed, but the time has come to open up and fight together with other nations to conquer Lava Legions. Those who wish to visit my dominion as allies or as traders, I welcome greatly, but those who wish violence on this place, those who walk with naked swords and try to destroy our peace, I will hunt down until the last memory of them is erased.

    Nightscar

"Picture him, if you can: Therion, Chieftain of Nightscar, Lord of the Orcs. Neither terribly imaginative nor possessed of great eloquence, still he possesses a rude charisma and a savage presence that brought him to the chieftainship and maintains his sway over the orcish horde. Of course, the years of hard living and even harder fighting have taken their toll. He is battle-scarred, to be sure. One ear is a ragged stump and one eye is crusted over with keloidal tissue. He keeps a gouty leg propped up on a hide pillow, and leans upon a war club when he walks.
"Am I," he says to himself in his cups, "the most despised of the Wizards of the Isles? Bah! I have outlasted Dwain, who was overtaken by surprise and fled to other dimensions, and I will outlast Eric, who despises me most of all."
He slams a fist down on the table, upsetting the mithril cup from which he is accustomed to quaff. Cursing, he sets it right. "These namby pamby wizards! They are a lot of hogwash and hokum! I spit on their idealistic notions and their too-too clever schemes! The strong right arm of an orcish bravo is all the scheming I need! Oh, how I spit their despite back in their faces!
"Sweet Talitha--she moons for the lost power of the Dark Elves, yet sways to and fro like the string-fungus that hangs from the caverns of Flophart. Who are her allies? Who are her enemies? She is like the cat in the adage, who lets 'I would,' wait upon 'I dare not.' Pathetic!
"Iermorcus--he is a bull who pretends to be a man! I find his vain boasts and prattling on about the accomplishments of the Minotaurs, who are no more than talking cows, to be the vulgar bellows of a lackwit. Despicable!
Therion refills his cup from an ewer on the table. "Let me see: Senaru! Yes, Senaru! It baffles me how one so naive could have grown so powerful! Will not somebody smash him out of his complacency? I cannot bear it any longer! If I didn't laugh I'd cry!"
"Perseo! Clever, clever Perseo! The lesser son of a great father is he, and he knows it! But he plots and schemes, and kills with a smile! Oh, villainous Perseo, your villainy has brought you not one kingdom but two! You may be the greatest villain to have ever lived! I salute you." The old orc drains his mithril mug with a gulp.
"And Eduarte--Eduarte is worst of all! He spends his days in idle dreaming and fantasies, relying always on others to protect him from the dangers and perils of the world! He is a great, leering sissy! Annunciato, my eye! Nothing but the words of a dreamer who doesn't realize that MIGHT makes RIGHT!"
Therion stood, wincing, and took up his club. "Too long have we orcs been silent! Now, let the darkness come alive! Let the orcs seize their destiny! Let us burn and plunder the upper world and the lower! Let us--"
The old orc clutched his chest and sat back down, heavily. "But let us have another drink first," he said, reaching for his ale.
