Valerien's Report on the Icelanders of R?le

    Once Again:

A bright flash of light ripped through the night, revealing the surrounding towers of rock and rolling hills. Quickly Valerien stepped through the portal and took in his new surroundings with a faint glimmer of hope in his eyes. While he had run into some hard times on previous worlds, perhaps this world was meant to receive him as its Lord.

Valerien had learned many things from worlds past. First of all, it seems that despite Valerien's dedication to allies even under the most depressing odds, other allies seemed to turn on him whenever profit was to be gained. The temptation to succumb to such cowardly tactics is strong, yet in this odd new world it is not a concern. I come into this New World knowing that the people I've been chosen to lead have allowed themselves with our Icelanders neighbors to the West, in the region of Fralde. It is with my brothers and sisters there that we will make our stand against the brutal oppression that lies to our south.

Valerien surveyed the Capitol that was beginning to emerge. The Icelanders appeared to be incredible laborers. Buildings were popping up in incredibly short periods of time. Perhaps there was hope yet. Across the city, young men who had taken up the sword and javelin in preparation for their Wizard's arrival, marched and trained vigorously. What other military forces the Icelanders could assemble would be discovered in time, when military might became a more significant and relevant factor. Valerien had already heard rumors of the might of the Sacred Hunters, whose mystique was obviously of great importance to the people of this land. Their reverence for these elite warriors was something to remember.

This was a cold, harsh and unforgiving Land. Yet the people who populated it were firm in body and mind. The people were uplifting, singing songs of long forgotten ages, moving in complex dances. What fortitude these people must possess, to brave such miserable conditions, and do it without turning their backs on their brethren. Yet their spirits are hard as well. They know that to relax and take things for granted means the end of their way of life. You do not thrive in the Arctic being soft. They will need all of this toughness in the upcoming battle, as we take to the icy fields against our enemies to the South.

    The First Waves

Waves of Scouts were immediately sent off to the neighboring lands, in search of fertile soil for growing the crops and the majestic forests needed to sustain a bustling economy and growing army. In addition, prospectors were ordered to explore the surrounding countryside and to begin mining the precious minerals and gems that lie within the hills and mountains of this world. What lies around us is unknown, for our civilization has not expanded beyond this dry arctic plain.

    Magick

Most important of all to Valerien was the state of magical research in these lands. It appeared that everything that had been developed on a previous world had been forgotten, and must be begun anew. Seeing this, Valerien called his Master Builder, Sutan, and ordered the construction of vast libraries and gathering places for those inclined to the mystical arts. Magic is what wins the wars, my friend. Mighty armies without magic to back them up are but stalks of grass against an army bolstered by the powerful magicks I have seen.

    Alliances

A friend from past worlds has joined in alliance with me here. Together we strive to crush those who would enslave our people and mercilessly slaughter our children. Let those who would oppose us know the fear of a coward. For even though you may consider yourself brave, you will tremble like a child at night when you awaken to find yourself looking into the face of the Devil himself.

  • PLAYER 2 - Dimlùr

Finally, you have the reached the blurb of Dimlur

The room was square with a large table in the middle. At the top, there was a large chair that looked almost like a throne. That chair was for the leader of The Council, Dimlur. The icelanders had never had a foreigner for a leader before, actually they hadn't had a leader for as long as anyone could remember. Even so, the chair fitted him perfectly. To his right was a smaller chair, but still larger than the rest, the seat of  Thaidin, Dimlur's personal advisor. He was a foreigner as well, and had been in Dimlur's service for a long time. Dimlur had great thrust in Thaidin, hence Thaidin knew most of Dimlur's plans. After all, they had been making the plans together. Both were great leaders by themselves, but together they made excellent leaders. Dimlur had some knowledge of magic, and was hoping for some apprentices that would help him with his studies. Thaidin was a great warrior and very capable of teaching his techniques to others. Provided the right facilities, he believed he could make some great warriors out of the icelanders.
"We are gathered here today to discuss next months happenings", Thaidin started. "We have a lot to do and little time, so lets not waste any." One of the things Dimlur liked about Thaidin was his way of cutting to the chase right away.
"As you all should know by now, times are changing, and we will need to adjust. Rumors of battles with strange looking other races has versed for quite a time now, and it is about time we took some action to figure this out. Dairone. Why don't you start by telling us what you know about the different races we might encounter." Dairone was chosen to take care of diplomatic relations. She was a tall, beautiful woman, and had deep, dark eyes. Some said that she could have men do whatever she wanted when they looked into her eyes. She was a remarkable woman, and carried herself like a royalty. In fact, at times she had more arrogance than any queen either Dimlur or Thaidin had ever met. Her voice was rather deep, and very soothing.
"We don't know much of course, but I will tell you what we have managed to find out. All our information is old, so I ask you to take this information with that in mind."
Dimlur had a great deal of information himself, but he preferred to have the icelanders tell what they knew first. He still had a lot to learn about the arctic people, and he saw this as an opportunity to learn about their culture. Knowing how they looked upon other races would help him make plans for the future.
"One of the Elders believes that there is an Astral connection close to our town. He thinks this Astral plane might be very small, perhaps consisting of just one or two regions, but still very rich on gems. He also thinks there might be more conections to Astral places like these spread over the world surface."
Dimlur and the rest of The Council knew better than to question an Elder, but they still found the information hard to believe. They were curious of how the Elder had found out about this when no one else seemed to know anything. Dimlur knew more than anyone in the council, and even to him this was new information.
"On the ground," Dairone continued "we have a highlander people. We know nothing of this race, but I think they might be interested in letting us guide them in thir ways. I am anxious to learn of their culture. I think we should send a considerable forces to show them what we are capable of."
"Remember, we are not looking for trouble." Thaidin cut in. "We will approach all races with equal opportunities for peace."
"Of course," Dairone replied. She didn't appreciate any critics. "I was merely trying to present their strengths. Even if we ask for peace, we may very well find that they are only interested in war"
"I agree." Grim confirmed. As military advisor, he was interested in all information about the races they might be up against. "If I am going to make decent men out the recruits I need to know what they can expect in war." He received a cold look from Thadin. They both knew that Thaidin was the one who would teach the men most about warfare, but he still needed Grim to help him. The icelanders didn't seem to appreciate taking orders from strangers, especially when it was something physical that had to be done. Perhaps a hint of amusement could be seen in the eyes of Thaidin, but Grim still let Dairone continue.
"Has anyone heard from our ally, Gandalf?" That was the first word from Dimlur, and everyones attention turned to him. He looked at each one of them, not finding any response to his question. "What's these rumors I hear from our scouts, Grim?"
"Well, the scouts reports isn't in yet, but it seems there might be a strange connection just outside our town. Rumors suggest that units of Gandalf has been found on the other side of this strange connection. Rumors are also claiming that some of these units are already on their way to our town, sire." Grim studied Dimlur's face for reaction, but couldn't find any.
"Very well. See to it that these alleged units are treated with care." Dimlur knew very well that the connection was to Gandalf, but he didn't want anyone else to know of all his powers. Not yet, at least. There were so many things this people didn't know about. If they had only known. If they had only known that their lives started a few weeks ago. If they had known that their lives was being played with with greater control than a puppetmaster had over his puppets. If they had only known that they were part of the greatest tournament that had ever existed. Merely because 16 wizards had the desire to find out who the most powerful wizard is. 8 of these had lost. 8 were left. In a year or two, the number would be 4, and he and Gandalf would be be up against the next best pair of wizards ever. Dimlur felt the excitment rise, and he wanted burst out in laughter of joy. This was what it was all about. In this constructed world with no real lives, he had never felt more alive!

    Behold fellow Wizards

    Gandalf, leader of the Gnomes

I am Gandalf, leader of the great Icelander settlement on this strange place. We are still not quite sure why we are here, but from our ancient scrolls it seems to indicate that there is some sort of battle between good and evil going on. If you think you need to contact us to settle your surrender peacefully, you can use the e-mail thingy below.

We have prevailed once though, and we will win again!!

One of our scrolls translates to something like:

Shrel'na is the name of the icelands of Guzzak, an unknown and hostile world... The climate on Shrel'na is very cold, but it has been blessed by the gods of nature and fertility, which made life on Shrel'na much nicer. In the beginning only Icelanders populated the Icelands, but since the blessing other races conquered their place on the Icelands. Resources can be found in plenty which attracted many kinds of races: High Elves, because the forests look greener than any other forest, Dervishes with their trading motive, Orcs because of the iron and mithril and Gnomes because of the minerals and gems that can be found in plenty.

However, the Icelanders still have an advantage considering power. All cities which are currently built on Shrel'na are all populated by Icelanders. The greater towns are ruled by mages which are people with great expansionistic ideas. They intend to subdue the other races to fight for their cause. The problem is that there are four great cities, thus four great wizards. In the north live the Icelanders of the Sacred Bear, in the south live more rationalistic Icelanders. They are more concerned about trade. These two groups of Icelanders have sworn to kill each other. They will both continue until the enemy is gone, or until they are gone themselves..."

"Choosing to live in the frozen regions, Icelanders have learnt to use the elements of arctic terrain to their upmost advantage. Riding Mammoths into war and building defences of ice, little can stop an Icelander army fighting in their home terrain. The communities generally live peacefully however, hunting and fishing the lands to gain food and skins to protect themselves from the cold. The Icelanders of Kelna Dale

    The People

Ruled by the Yeti Clan Chieftain, Lord Araxus, the Icelanders of Kelna Dale inhabit the bitterly cold and remote northerly region of Shrel'na, deep in the Arctic climes of the world Guzzak. A harsh life surviving in arctic conditions, the Icelanders are well adapted to hunting and food gathering. A strict diet of whale blubber and seal meat is balanced by generations of subsistence eating, enabling the Icelancers to consume far less nuirishing foods than their warmer climate kin may be accustomed to. Hunting this food has become a ritual of religion to the people of Kelna Dale; warriors dress up in fine furs and decorate their faces with pigments of smashed sea urchins, utilizing walrus bone spears and javelins in canoes of shark skin. To ensure their survival and the availability of this food and the ongoing hunting rituals, they fiercely patrol and protect their homeland, nearly to the point of paranoia; however, they share a mutual bond with other religious Icelanders of the area who share their views. Otherwise, they have little or no contact with any other cities in the arctic wastes of Shrel'na.

    The History

Originally a nomadic tribe, the ancestors of Kelna Dale grew religious and revered various animals as gods. The greatest of these was the Polar Bear, which the tribe followed as spirit guides throughout the arctic wastes during their migrations. Eventually, to become a man of the tribe and prove oneself worthy, one had to wrestle with the Polar Bears for a given period of time and survive, a custom shared with the other Icelanders of the south. This eventually established the clans of the Sacred Bear.

Recently, the appearance of the northern lights was taken by tribal shaman as a sign from the animal spirits that a great destiny awaited the Icelanders of the Sacred Bear clans. This has led to the formation of warrior castes selected from the best of the hunters, and they have been surrepetitiously expanding their domain in the south in preparation to challenge the heathen Icelanders of the north who value commodities over animal spirits.

Deeply spiritual, while at first apprehensive towards outsiders, early mistrusts can be overcome with the Fralde Vale Icelanders if the outsiders share similar beliefs in animal spirits.

    The Guardianship

Recently, excursions by the more northerly tribes of Icelanders, who are viewed by the clans of the Sacred Bear as heathens who value commodities over the animal spirits have drawn the attention and ire of the northern clans. Northerners have been caught poaching and killing animals, not for sustinence needs as approved by the animal spirits, but for sport and the value of their fur coats and the oil of their blubber. The clans of the Sacred Bear have thus become more wary and nervous, and they now regularly patrol their lands for the invaders and kill them ruthlessly on sight.

    The Preparation

However, the clan elders have been communing with the spirits of the Polar Bears, and the spirits council that the clans of the Sacred Bear can not remain complacent. Action is called for to heal the wounds of the land and appease the spirits of the wrongly slain animals. These wronged spirits are reawakening and taking the shape of huge ice drakes, with the promise of encasing the infidels from the north in a tomb of ice and snow forever.
