The legends tell of a icy wasteland to the north... a barren place devoid of life and beauty, from whence no explorer has returned alive. It is told, however, that deep in the heart of this wasteland there is a canyon, a fissure in the earth so deep that even the strongest arctic winds cannot penetrate. It is within this subterranean hold that the noble Minotaurs live, in complete isolation from the outside world. For years the Minotaurs tribes have existed in seclusion and separation, warring amongst themselves for control of the scarce resources available and for political power. Famed for their fierceness and hostility, the Minotaur tribes had all but slaughtered themselves into extinction...

In the depths of the swamps the Hill Dwarves have taken refugee in, you find a thriving village and a mighty, ancient castle, guarded by resolute Dwarven warriors. Expecting you, they usher you into the castle, to the throne room of their leader, the one you have come to see. “All hail mighty Karnak Xul the Betrayed! Lord of Camp Jollymount! Emperor of the Isles! Slayer of the Foe!” Your first meeting with the ruler of the Hill Dwarves is one of shock, for he is not anything like that you expected. Indeed, he is not even a Dwarf. He is, in appearance, a human, dusk skinned and dark of hair and eye. A trimmed beard graces his face and a hawk-like nose gives him the appearance of a raptor. You are uncertain how one who appears like a Dervish ended up as lord of the Hill Dwarves, and despite your curiosity, no answers are fore coming. “Welcome friend,” Karnak Xul speaks. “I am glad you have come, for there is much work that needs to be done. There is an enemy out their, vast and evil, that needs to be combated. And there are other lesser enemies that need an eye kept on, least the attempt a stab in the back. Speak with all nations, telling them that Karnak Xul and the Hill Dwarves are ready for war. Against Arragoth or any who seek to deny us what is ours.”
