" 'ello and welcome to Cropers Wood.  I am Lord Togamata, ruler of the
Halfling people.  Come sit a spell while we enjoy some ale and some Grompeth
pie.  Let us share tales of adventure and come upon an understanding of peace
between my people and yours.  But be warned, if you cross into our lands with
hostile intentions, be it known that you are in for a fight you will not be
expecting.  For even though the Halfling people are a peaceful and joyous
race, we will defend what is ours to the last man.  But enough of that, come
let us talk..."

  • PLAYER 3 - Alsier

    

    Denizens of the Isles,
    

I am Alsier, Master of the S'tarash House of Barackas.  After centuries of
strife, my house reigns supreme over the remains of all other Dark Elven
houses.  I plan for the future of my people, the populace of the sole
surviving Dark Elven City, Barackas.  It is time for my brethren to look
outward.  It appears I have won control just in time, for our Isles are in
grave danger.  My High Priestess has glimpsed a grim path through the
future.  The Fire God, Arragoth, shall awaken soon and wreak destruction
upon all.  It is only by working together that we may thwart his will.  I
invite diplomatic relations with other rulers of the Isles, so that we might
vanquish this mighty threat and save all our people from utter destruction.
It is my wish to usher in a new era of peace for my martial race.  However,
I remain prepared to destroy any who would oppose us.  There is too much to
lose to risk mercy on enemies.

Welcome to the Bulls Canyon, High Lord Tollan is already waiting you.
It has come to my attention, that the fires of volcanoes are burning very
high again. This activity has been noted by myself and hopefully by some
of you as well. There are not many things that worry me, but this is some-
thing that cannot be ignored. I have been told by my forefathers that this
is the sign that the Lord of Fire is awakening to consume the world again.
This, however, must not come to pass.
Let him awaken, but we must be there to meet him, when he is still weak
or we will be lost. Therefore I propose a pact. Call it a non-aggression
pact. For the time being, if my people are not attacked, I will refrain from
sending my mighty warriors agains you. That way we can be better prepaired
for the inevitable: the firey hordes that surely will come.


    
This I do solemnly swear.

    The Quiet One
    
Early Spring

    


    I have been in the city of the High Elves for 2 years now, 
and until this month, little of interest has happend to justify the generous 
retainer you have been providing me with.  However things appear to be 
picking up, and if my sources are
correct are not likely to slow down in the near future.  Here is a partial 
transcipt of Queen Thassa Leatha's address to the High Elven Royal Council 
at the start of this year.
    
I have included the complete transcript and some other relevant documents in 
a seperate package that should arrive within a week of this letter.

    My friends, I have gathered this you here 
today to discuss some alarming news.  Our scouts report that the volcanoes 
are becoming active and our seers have been seeing portents of death and 
destruction at every turn.  I have spoken with our elders and they believe 
that what we have feared for centuries has come to pass.
    

    Arragoth is awakening. We still have a little time to 
prepare, but not much; probably as little as a year.  If at all possible we 
must destroy Arragoth before he awakens, for we would be hard pressed, even 
with allies, to defeat him once he has fully arisen.
    

    To this end I have decided that we must raise an army and 
seek alliances with  other the peoples of the isles, since Arragoth poses a 
threat to us all.  We should also expand our territory, since what we have 
now, while sufficient to support ourselves, is not enough to maintain a 
large army.  In the meantime I must complete my studies in magic, as it will 
take some  formidable wizardry to defeat Arragoth and as I previously 
mentioned, time is short.  Now do you have any 
questions?
    

    

    

    


    Having finished reading the letter the Ruler looked up to 
the Spy Master.
    

    "What did the other documents tell you?"
    

    "I don't know, since we never recieved The Quiet Ones package 
and have been unable to contact him ever since.  We must consider the 
possibility that he was discovered.  Under the circumstances it would be 
best to send in new operatives to observe the High Elves if circumstances 
permit."
    

    The Ruler nodded in understanding.  "Very well, keep me 
informed.  Is that the last of the reports?"
    

    The Spy Master thought for a second.  "We have been losing an 
unusually high number of spies lately, due mostly to increased alertness on 
the part of the other nations.  We need more experienced spies or the losses 
will likely continue.
    

    "Very well, I will think on this.
    

    The Spy Master, knowing when she had been dismissed left the 
room and returned to her quarters.  She could see war on the horizon, but 
was still uncertain what shape the war would take.
